Gardener's Dictionary: Species

Species (n.): A population of similar organisms that usually interbreed only among themselves, and are given a unique, Latin binomial name to distinguish them from all other creatures. The Latin species name is lowercased and italicized, and comes after its genus name, which is capitalized and italicized. The Latin name for the calla lily flower, for example, is Zantedeschia aethiopica.
