Gardener's Dictionary: Layering

Layering (v.): A method of propagating plants by securing a flexible stem of a woody plant (such as roses) to the ground while it is still attached to the parent plant. Roots will develop at the point where the stem touches the ground, and this forms a new plant. Once the new plant has become established, it can be detached from the parent plant.
