Gardener's Dictionary: pH

pH (n.): Gardeners use the pH scale to measure the acidity and alkalinity in their garden soil. With a scale of 0 to 14, a pH of 7 is neutral; acidic solutions are less than 7, and alkaline solutions are greater than 7. After measuring your soil, you can add things to the soil to make the acidity and alkalinity match your plants' needs. Lime, loam, compost, sulfur and other additives can help you change your soil's alkalinity.
